Man i met in train on CapeTrip

V wer sitting in our compartment..in b/w a man rushed towards us asking,'Can i use d window seat to take a photograph?'.

We welcomed him. He enquired 'Is tat bridge over?'

I: 'Its our first tym in train on this route'

Man: Oh.. There's a bridge coming up which is in b/w Nagercoil-Eraniel route. I hav seen from land..donno how it luks lyk in train.

I: Whats its speciality?

Man: Thats d bridge from which my son died.

Complete silence... Music players off..Earphones unplugged from ears...

Man: it was on May21 st. He was lyk u guys,studying for engineering in Nagercoil n was traveling to college.Stepped down frm train while train was moving. Today is 21st. Its been 5months.

Train reached tat bridge.He opened d camera lens..But his hands wer shaking..Lips trembling..Eyes filled wid tears..I understood tat he cant take tat pic.I tuk my mobile and Clicked. Transferred to his phone. He showed me his digitalcam a video which he shot.

It was nothing but a bridge.. Video started. It was a train. He told. 'This is the train my son travelled..Jammutawi Express'. And video moved.. Then he paused. Pointed a bogie and told 'This was the bogie, my son was standing'

I dont have anywords to say.I just hugged him. Felt my eyes also wet.

Huff..Just imagine whats his condition??..

Google Chrome OS -- The winners & Losers

Introduction

Google launched its Chrome OS, which is really a copy of several products already on the market and an interesting recreation of the thin client concept that Sun and Oracle, came up with over a decade ago. You could argue, however, that most successful products, like the iPod and iPhone, are simply better copies of what came before. Really, nobody cares that much -- consumers only care about whether a new offering will make their lives better. The Google Chrome OS goes directly to a primary need that mainstream PC users have had unmet since the beginning: an appliance experience.

While I'm not convinced that Google is approaching this market correctly -- primarily because it lacks focus and has a conflicting product with Android -- the opportunities and threats this product represents are very real. Still, this week I'll point to the winners and losers if -- and "IF" -- is a big word, the Google Chrome OS becomes dominant.

Winners: Think Non-PC

The big winners are the companies that are empowered to drive into markets they currently don't play in, or are trivialized in. The Google Chrome OS (COS), As does for console gaming, the COS shifts load and complexity from the desktop to the Internet using, but not necessarily requiring, a cloud model.

The first group that would be dancing in the streets are people like Marvel, NVidia, and Qyalcom, because these companies are backing ARM into ever more capable devices that could be more than adequate for clients that are increasingly streaming video or relying on hosted resources to do their computing.

The second group is the wireless carriers and those that sell wireless services in airlines, because this platform requires an always-on connection, which is something that hasn't penetrated well into the PC space yet. The Chrome OS puts these wireless service providers in the middle of the solution and likely will place a massive amount of funding under WiMax and LTE aka "4G" wireless networking.

The third group is developers already doing well in the various app store cellphone markets. This will explode the app store concept, and people who know how to build and sell compelling applications will likely gain massive new customer bases. I would include those that have been successful in building related service models as well.This takes us to the 4G wireless networking equipment makers who should increasingly see large sums of money flowing in their direction as the service providers rush to get ready for this opportunity. This will be a rather massive buildout and, at least in the U.S., could benefit from the networking-focused stimulus spending. Given that the Obama administration appears to favor this solution, this outcome seems likely.

Finally, companies that can provide high-capacity server resources at very aggressive prices should benefit as well. While this may commoditize rack-mounted servers, the companies that provide related services should get substantial growth out of this effort. Since Google is one of the largest of this class of firm, this showcases how strategic this effort is for it. The COS is likely more strategic than Android is, which is an interesting thought.

Losers: Those Tied to the PC Status Quo

If this were a normal market where the challenging firm or firms largely lived in the low-cost, high-volume space, Apple would be on the shortlist of losers. However, Apple is relatively protected because it exists at the high end of the market, which will probably move last and has a customer base that is considered the most loyal in the industry.This puts Microsoft on the leading edge of exposure, but it gives it several years to respond. No matter how you look at it, even if Apple and Microsoft respond, they will have to sacrifice desktop revenue to do so, and neither will move aggressively to do that.

Intel and AMD drive the current PC platform, but the COS initiative favors low-cost, low-performance desktop platforms. This means that even though they will continue to sell processors, those processors will increasingly come from the value bins -- not the higher-margin performance bins.Even on the server side, this movement favors Google's hardware model of massive numbers of low-cost servers or virtual machines – more input-output than processing power. Both firms will likely have to shift their priorities for future products sharply. Server growth, however, is expected to be significant.Cable and wired telephony companies that don't have strong wireless positions will increasingly find themselves made obsolete as the COS drives people away from wired providers to wireless ones for much of their data consumption. The speed of this will likely depend on economic pressures that drive strapped consumers to eliminate redundant services; better economic conditions would slow this trend substantially.

Wild Cards

There are a few areas that I think could go either way. Graphics, for instance, will take a massive hit on the client side, but this technology is relatively unknown on the server side, and it could explode there. The gain could actually exceed the loss because this technology is contained in a relatively small number of vendors, which potentially could allow for stronger-than-normal margins.Existing private cloud vendors could be replaced by lower-cost alternatives for public cloud offerings -- but industry doesn't like the public cloud model, and Google will likely license its back end to enterprises. This could lead to partnerships with companies like IBM,HP and EMC/Cisco/VMware, which could lead to substantial additional opportunity in what will be an increasingly lucrative enterprise private cloud space.

What happens to existing thin-client companies will depend on how they approach this opportunity. If they treat it like a competitor and it is successful, they get displaced, if they embrace it with their more-advanced and mature tools, they could end up more successful than they have ever been. It would seem obvious that they should do the latter, but companies facing change more often protect their turf than embrace a change like this.

Conclusion

Google is thinly spread and has shown an increasing inability to focus, which does make the near-term success of the COS somewhat unlikely. However, the market has wanted an appliance solution for the PC for decades, and one will eventually emerge.When it does, it will change the PC market as we know it, and it will be interesting to see who is still standing after the fog clears. My sense is that it will be those that have the vision to anticipate where this market is going and get there first. Here's hoping it is the company you work for.

കോഴിക്കോട് നിന്ന് തൃശൂര്‍ക്കുള്ള ഒരു ബസ്. സീറ്റ് ഫുള്ളാണ്. പത്തു പന്ത്രണ്ടുപേര്‍ നില്‍ക്കുന്നുമുണ്ട്. ഇടയ്ക്കൊരു സ്റ്റോപ്പില്‍ നിന്ന് കയറിയ പെണ്‍കുട്ടി. കയറിയപാടെ ഒരു സീറ്റില്‍ ചാരിനിന്ന് മൊബൈല്‍ ചെവിയില്‍ ചേര്‍ത്തു.

"എടാ, ഞാനിപ്പോ കയറീട്ടേ ഉള്ളൂ...'' എന്നു തുടങ്ങിയ സംഭാഷണം പതിയെപ്പതിയെ പരിഭവങ്ങളിലേക്കും ശൃംഗാരങ്ങളിലേക്കും നീണ്ടപ്പോള്‍ അടുത്തിരുന്നവര്‍ ചിലര്‍ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാന്‍ തുടങ്ങി. ചുറ്റും ആളുകളുണ്ടെന്ന ഭാവംപോലും ഇല്ലാതെയാണ് മൊബൈല്‍ സംഭാഷണം ഒഴുകുന്നത്. മറ്റു യാത്രക്കാര്‍ പരസ്പരം നോക്കുന്നുണ്ട്, ചിരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്...പാവം പെണ്‍കുട്ടി! ഇതൊന്നുമറിയുന്നില്ല... ഒടുവില്‍ സഹികെട്ട് കണ്ടക്ടര്‍ അടുത്തുവന്നു പറഞ്ഞു,

'മോളേ, ബസില്‍ നിന്നിറങ്ങിയിട്ട് മതി ഇനി വര്‍ത്തമാനം...മറ്റുള്ളവര്‍ക്കും യാത്ര ചെയ്യണ്ടേ..''

ഒരു 'സോറി'യില്‍ ആ സംഭാഷണം അവസാനിപ്പിച്ചപ്പോഴും അവളുടെ മുഖത്ത് കുറ്റബോധമൊന്നും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. പെണ്‍കുട്ടികള്‍ മാത്രമല്ല ആണ്‍കുട്ടികളായാലും മുതിര്‍ന്നവരായാലും പരിസരം മറന്നുള്ള മൊബൈല്‍ വര്‍ത്തമാനം ഇന്ന് പതിവുള്ള കാഴ്ചയാണ്.

പൊതു ഇടങ്ങളില്‍ മനുഷ്യര്‍ പാലിക്കേണ്ട മര്യാദകള്‍ ലംഘിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന പല സന്ദര്‍ഭങ്ങളിലൊന്ന് മാത്രമാണിത്. സാമൂഹ്യജീവി ആയതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ മനുഷ്യര്‍ക്ക് പൊതു ഇടപെടലുകള്‍ അനിവാര്യമാണ്. നമ്മുടെ പെരുമാറ്റവും ഇടപെടലുകളും മറ്റൊരാള്‍ക്ക് എന്തെങ്കിലും അസ്വസ്ഥതകള്‍ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നുണ്ടോ എന്ന് ചെറിയ ഒരു ആലോചന നടത്തിയാല്‍ ദോഷമൊന്നും വരാനില്ല. അടക്കവും ഒതുക്കവും വിനയവും ബഹുമാനവും കുലീനതയും സഹജീവി മനോഭാവവും നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് ചേഷ്ടകളും കോപ്രായങ്ങളും കൈമുതലായിത്തീരുന്ന പുതിയ തലമുറയെ തിരുത്താനും തിരുത്തിപ്പിക്കാനും അരുതെന്ന് സ്നേഹത്തോടെ ഗുണദോഷിക്കാനും പഴയ തലമുറ മടിച്ചു നില്‍ക്കുന്നു. 'ജനറേഷന്‍ ഗ്യാപ്പ്' വര്‍ധിച്ച് എന്തും ഏതും ആവാമെന്ന നിലയിലേക്ക് കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ എത്തിപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

തിരക്കുള്ള ബസ്. ഇരിക്കുന്നവന് നില്‍ക്കുന്നവനെക്കുറിച്ച് ചിന്തയില്ല. കയറിയവന് കയറാനുള്ളവരെക്കുറിച്ച് ചിന്തയില്ല. രണ്ടാള്‍ക്ക് ഒതുങ്ങിയിരിക്കാവുന്ന സീറ്റില്‍ കാലുകള്‍ കവച്ചുവച്ച് ഒരാള്‍ക്ക് നില്‍ക്കാനുള്ള ഇടം കൂടി അപഹരിച്ച് ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ 'അനിയാ അല്‍പ്പമൊന്ന് ഒതുങ്ങിയിരിന്നു കൂടേ, കാല് ഒതുക്കിവച്ചാല്‍ നില്‍ക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് വലിയ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടില്ലാതെ നില്‍ക്കാമല്ലോ!' എന്നു പറയേണ്ടി വരുന്നു. പ്രായമായവരോ കുട്ടിയെ എടുത്തവരോ കയറി വരുമ്പോള്‍ കാണാത്ത ഭാവത്തില്‍ ഇരിക്കുന്നവരും കുറവല്ല.

തിരക്കുള്ള ഹോട്ടല്‍. ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ അല്‍പ്പം മാറിയാണ് വാഷ് ബേസിന്‍. കൈ കഴുകുന്ന ഒരുവന്‍ വായില്‍ കൈയിട്ട് തേച്ചും വെള്ളം ശക്തിയോടെ തുപ്പിയും കാറിയും കുരച്ചും ഓക്കാനിച്ചും കോപ്രായങ്ങള്‍ കാട്ടുമ്പോള്‍ അവന്‍ ഭക്ഷണം തന്നെയല്ലേ കഴിച്ചത് എന്ന് ന്യായമായും നമുക്ക് സംശയിക്കാം. ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന മറ്റുള്ളവര്‍ക്ക് അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് മനസാ വെറുപ്പു തോന്നുന്നതും ശപിക്കുന്നതും ഓക്കാനം വരുന്നതും സ്വാഭാവികം. ഇവിടെ താന്‍ മാത്രമല്ല മറ്റുള്ളവര്‍കൂടി ഉണ്ട് എന്നു ചിന്തിച്ചാല്‍ ഈ കോപ്രായങ്ങള്‍ ഒഴിവാക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.

അച്ഛന്‍ മരിച്ച വേദനയില്‍ മനംനൊന്ത് വീര്‍പ്പുമുട്ടിനില്‍ക്കുന്ന ഒരു മരണവീട്.

അല്‍പ്പം മാറി ഒരു മൂലയില്‍ നാലു ചെറുപ്പക്കാര്‍ എന്തോ കഥ പറഞ്ഞ് പൊട്ടിച്ചിരിച്ച് കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ ചുമലിലിടിച്ച് താളംപിടിച്ച് നിശ്ശബ്ദതയെ ഭഞ്ജിക്കുകയാണ്. മരിച്ച ആളുടെ ബന്ധുക്കളുടെ ദുഃഖത്തില്‍ കൂടെ കരയണമെന്നില്ല. അരോചകമാവുന്ന രീതിയിലുള്ള പെരുമാറ്റങ്ങള്‍ ഒഴിവാക്കുകയെങ്കിലും ചെയ്തുകൂടേ? കുറേകാലം കൂടി കാണുന്ന സുഹൃത്ത് ചിലപ്പോള്‍ ആ മരണവീട്ടില്‍ വന്നിട്ടുണ്ടാവാം. കണ്ടതിന്റെ സന്തോഷവും കുശലാന്വേഷണവും ഒക്കെ നടത്തുമ്പോള്‍ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക, അതൊരു മരണവീടാണ്.

ഒരുപാട് ആളുകളെ ക്ഷണിച്ചു വരുത്തിയ ഒരു വിവാഹം. ഹാളില്‍ സദ്യ തുടങ്ങി. ഭക്ഷണശാലയുടെ വാതില്‍ തുറക്കേണ്ട താമസം, തിക്കും തിരക്കും ബഹളവും തന്നെ. അഞ്ചു മിനിറ്റുപോലും ശാന്തമായി കാത്തുനില്‍ക്കാന്‍ കഴിയാത്ത രീതിയില്‍ മലയാളിയുടെ മര്യാദ മരിച്ചുപോയിരിക്കുന്നു. തിക്കിത്തിരക്കി ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ച് അപ്പുറത്തുപോയിരുന്ന് വെടി പറയുന്നവരാണധികവും. എന്നാലും അവിടെയും ഒരു മത്സരം ഒഴിവാക്കാന്‍ നാം തയ്യാറല്ല!

തിരക്കുപിടിച്ച ബസില്‍ വലിയ ബാഗും തൂക്കി കുറെ കുട്ടികള്‍ കയറി. വൃദ്ധരും രോഗികളും ഒക്കെയായി മറ്റ് യാത്രക്കാരും ബസില്‍ ഉണ്ട്. ഒച്ചയും ബഹളവും. കമ്പിയില്‍ പിടിക്കാതെ പരസ്പരം ചാരിനില്‍ക്കുന്ന കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് ബസ് ബ്രേക്കിടുന്നതനുസരിച്ച് മുമ്പോട്ടും പിമ്പോട്ടും ആടിയുലയുന്നത് ഒരു രസം. ഇവര്‍ ബസില്‍ സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്ന അസ്വസ്ഥതകളും മടുപ്പും ചില്ലറയല്ല. അടങ്ങിയൊതുങ്ങി, മറ്റ് യാത്രക്കാരും ഉണ്ട് എന്ന ബോധത്തില്‍ നിന്നാല്‍ എത്ര നന്നാവും! ഇക്കാര്യത്തിലെല്ലാം രക്ഷിതാക്കള്‍ മക്കളെ ഉപദേശിക്കുന്നതില്‍ മടിയും പിശുക്കും കാട്ടേണ്ടതുണ്ടോ? പൊതു സന്ദര്‍ഭങ്ങളില്‍ പെരുമാറേണ്ട കാര്യങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് കുട്ടികളെ ബോധവാന്മാരാക്കുന്നതില്‍ അധ്യാപകര്‍ക്കും വലിയ പങ്കു വഹിക്കാനുണ്ട്.

കുടുംബസമേതം ഒരു സിനിമ കാണാന്‍ തിയറ്ററിലെത്തിയാലോ... ചില രംഗങ്ങള്‍ വരുമ്പോള്‍ കമന്റടിക്കുകയും കൂക്കിവിളിക്കുകയും അലറുകയും ചെയ്യുകയാണ് ഒരു കൂട്ടം. ഫുട്ബോള്‍ കാണുമ്പോള്‍ ഗോളടിച്ചാല്‍ ആഹ്ളാദിക്കുന്നതും ക്രിക്കറ്റ് കാണുമ്പോള്‍ ആഹ്ളാദിക്കുന്നതും പോലെയല്ല സിനിമാ തിയറ്ററില്‍ കൂക്കി വിളിക്കുന്നത്. എവിടെയായാലും സഹജീവികള്‍ക്ക് ശല്യമാകുന്ന രീതിയില്‍ പെരുമാറുന്നത് ഏതായാലും ഭൂഷണമല്ല.

മൊബൈല്‍ ഫോണ്‍ ആവശ്യത്തിനുള്ളതാണ്. നമ്മുടെ സ്വകാര്യജീവിതത്തെയും പൊതുജീവിതത്തെയും സൌകര്യപ്രദമാക്കാന്‍ എത്രമാത്രം ഉപയോഗപ്രദമാക്കാമോ അത്രയും ആവാം. എന്നാല്‍ അല്‍പ്പം മര്യാദയോടെ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതില്‍ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കേണ്ടതില്ലേ? ബസില്‍ യാത്ര ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ മറ്റുള്ളവര്‍ക്ക് ശല്യമാകുന്ന രീതിയില്‍ ഉറക്കെ സംസാരിക്കുന്നത് ഒഴിവാക്കാവുന്നതാണ്. "ഞാന്‍ ബസിലാണ്. അല്‍പ്പം കഴിഞ്ഞ് വിളിക്കൂ.'' അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ "ഞാന്‍ അങ്ങോട്ട് വിളിക്കാം'' എന്നു പറയുന്നതല്ലേ നല്ലത്. അത്യാവശ്യമാണെങ്കില്‍ ചെറിയ ശബ്ദത്തില്‍ പെട്ടെന്ന് സംസാരിച്ച് ഒഴിവാക്കേണ്ടതല്ലേ.

വിവിധ പാട്ടുകളുടെ ശബ്ദകോലാഹലങ്ങളും ഇപ്പോള്‍ മൊബൈല്‍ ഫോണുകളില്‍ പതിവായിരിക്കുന്നു. മൃതദേഹത്തിനരികില്‍ അനുശോചനം അറിയിച്ച് വലം വയ്ക്കുമ്പോള്‍ കീശയില്‍നിന്ന് മൊബൈല്‍ ഫോണ്‍ വലിയ ശബ്ദത്തില്‍ 'ഫോണെടുക്കെടാ...എടാ ഒന്നെടുക്കെടാ' എന്ന് ശൃംഗാരച്ചുവയോടെ പറഞ്ഞാലോ? കൂടിനില്‍ക്കുന്ന മുഴുവന്‍ ആളുകളുടെയും നെറ്റി ചുളിയും. ഇത്തരം സന്ദര്‍ഭങ്ങളില്‍ മൊബൈല്‍ "സൈലന്റ്'' ആക്കാന്‍ എന്തിനാണ് മടിക്കുന്നത്?

When the body was first made, all the parts wanted to be the boss.

The brain said, "since I control everything and do all the thinking, I should be the boss."

The feet said, "since I carry man where he wants to go and get him in position to do what the brain wants, then I should be the boss."

The hands said, "since I must do all the work and earn all the money to keep the rest of you going, I should be the boss."

And so it went with the eyes, the heart, the lungs, and all the other parts of the body, each giving the reason why they should be the boss.

Finally, the asshole spoke up and said it was going to be the boss.

All the other parts laughed and laughed at the idea of the asshole being the boss. The asshole got so angry that he blocked himself off and refused to function.

Soon the brain was feverish and could barely think, the feet felt like lead weights and was almost too weak to drag the body anywhere, the eyes grew bleary, and the hands hung useless at the sides. All pleaded with the brain to let the asshole be declared the boss.

And so it happened; all the other parts did all the work and the asshole just bossed and passed out a lot of crap.

THE MORAL: You don't have to be a brain to be a boss, just an old asshole.

Alternate moral: No matter how well things are going, it can all be shut down by a single asshole.
